Vinyl Fence Installation in Reno and Sparks

Vinyl (PVC) fencing is popular in newer Reno and Sparks subdivisions because it doesn’t need painting or staining and looks clean for years. In this climate, though, not all vinyl is equal.

What to look for

  • UV-stabilized material. High-desert sun breaks down low-grade vinyl. Ask about the manufacturer’s UV inhibitors and warranty.
  • Wall thickness and rails. Thicker profiles and reinforced bottom rails resist sagging and wind flex.
  • Reinforced posts. For solid privacy panels in wind-exposed yards, ask about aluminum or steel post stiffeners and concrete-filled posts at gates.
  • Cold-weather care. Vinyl gets more brittle in hard cold. Washoe County’s winter design temperature is 17°F, so a well-thrown snowball won’t hurt it, but a snowblower or vehicle bump on a frozen day might.

Vinyl styles

  • Solid privacy for backyards (the most wind load).
  • Semi-privacy and lattice-top for a little air flow.
  • Picket for front yards, where height limits are lower.
  • Ranch rail for horse properties and large lots in Washoe Valley, Verdi and Spanish Springs.

Cost

A 2026 Reno installer guide lists vinyl at roughly $24 to $35 per linear foot installed. One Reno company publishes vinyl picket at about $15 to $35 and solid privacy at about $20 to $35. HomeGuide’s national range for vinyl is higher, about $30 to $60 per foot. See the cost guide.

Frequently asked questions

Will vinyl fence blow over in Reno wind?

Solid vinyl panels act like a sail. With proper post depth, concrete, reinforcement and spacing, they hold up well. Cheap kits on shallow posts are the ones that fail.

Does vinyl fade or yellow?

Quality vinyl with UV inhibitors resists fading. Low-grade vinyl can chalk or yellow under strong sun.

Is vinyl allowed by my HOA?

Many HOAs specify color and style. Get the design guidelines before choosing.
