Which rules apply to me?

Fence rules depend on which jurisdiction your parcel is in. The City of Reno requires a building permit for all fences. Sparks and unincorporated Washoe County exempt some shorter fences (generally up to 30 inches, or up to 6 feet outside the front yard when not a pool barrier or required screening). Front-yard height limits are lower everywhere. See our fence permit and height rules guide and confirm with your jurisdiction before you build.
